SO. TELEPATHY. This is what it sounds like!! Ruka and Yuki can hear people's thoughts, anddd that is also the end of it. They can't control it, so they can't NOT listen, and they can't try harder to listen if someone has mental shields or whatever! They don't have empathy or the ability to project their thoughts into someone else's head; they can just hear what people are thinking.
As far as threading with Ruka/Yuki go, while you are certainly FREE to keep up a constant inner mind theater, it's not required! It would be helpful if you could action-tag notable things-- lies, thoughts about Ruka/Yuki personally, headmonsters spewing a constant litany of murder, etc.-- but if we need to know anything in particular, we can get in touch. And while they aren't empaths, if you'd like to just tag with something like [CONCERNED] or [ANGRY THOUGHTS GO HERE] that's fine too, WE KNOW SPECIFICS CAN BE HARD.

His player skill is super-sensitive hearing combined with TELEPATHY. He hears people's thoughts like they're speaking, and it's not something he can turn off. But for ease of threading, it can be handwaved that OOPS it was too noisy/he wasn't paying attention/his mental wifi blipped/etc. Opt out/in.
Ruka is part of an extremely advanced computer simulation. He'll have a physical fleshy form for Court, but yep HE'S AN AI.
For other psychics or the spiritually sensitive, his thoughts/soul might have a sliiiight echo. He has a strong mental connection to Yuki, and they can still recombine at times.
His AU-verse is one where the di[e]ce continued for another month. Ruka's consciousness joined/merged with Yuki's after his death, and he stuck around while Yuki joined and worked with Cruciata.code modified from

This is an alternity from the time I played Ruka in CFUD! The starter is this thread, showing up at camp to find that Kazuki is already there. Kazuki is still under the impression that Ruka is Yuki at this point!

Once upon a time me and Yuki mistook di[e]ce's bad pacing for foreshadowing and thought that Yuki suddenly gaining combat skills and showing up with Ruka's katana after Ruka's death was because they had actually permanently merged minds during their last visit on the mental astral plane. INSTEAD THE SERIES HAD JUST GOTTEN CANCELLED, but this is that AU. Includes the run-in with Seiji, some interaction with Cruciata, and... stealing Ruka's sword from the police... but cuts off there to avoid spoilers!

Mal's cooking game; day 227. team-colored candies, six pieces
SUPER-RIDICULOUS SHOUJO AU. Kazuki is the obnoxious yet strangely charming freshman that starts a competitive club at his new high school and recruits all the players to it (...if they don't just willingly join because KAZUKI????) CRUCIATA IS THEIR RIVAL FROM ANOTHER SCHOOL!1! Kusakabe is the terrifying athletics teacher. Reo is the school nurse. Akikage is the principal. There is drama (HARUKI AND KAZUKI ARE PUT ON SEPARATE TEAMS FOR FIELD DAY! WILL THEIR FRIENDSHIP SURVIVE? WHAT WILL THEY DO TO WIN???) and romance (everyone pining after Kazuki) (there are so many shoujo bubbles and flowery backdrops) and shenanigans (the Kings get roomed with the wrong Bishop/Knight/Pawn combinations during a school trip) (one room has a lot of yelling and one is dead silent)
Snow is eating all of these immediately no one will ever know.

Odile/Nimue's trauma game; day 228. mini goblet and vial; three uses
In this AU Ruka waits a little longer before he snaps and runs away from home, so instead of getting picked up by Kusakabe, he runs into Ageha while they're dismantling a di[e]ce! And it goes... basically the same way Yuki's train di[e]ce did in canon-- Ruka's hearing lets him help Ageha deal with the situation, and Ageha extends an invitation to join Cruciata to him. He agrees to at least see what's up with it, intrigued by the little bits of context on di[e]ce and Cruciata that he's picked up from Ageha's thoughts. When Cruciata discovers that he's a Player, they at first want to kill him but then decide use him, when he expresses that he also wants to destroy di[e]ce (though he's not sure about the whole "allies of justice" thing.) He thus spends the next few years learning to fight and dismantling di[e]ces and eventually developing some really reluctant team feelings instead of learning to fight and getting abused and hating the whole world a lot. Memory drops out with the news that the proper di[e]ce (the one at the school) has begun because I didn't make enough plans for this AU to plot out the rest of canon :Db

This is the starter for a AU-verse taking place after the end of canon, during the reset! In it Ruka is about twelve and finds a kitten on the way home from school. In the image of fluffy-minded kids confronted with stray animals everywhere, he takes it home and asks his parents if he can keep it. Since in this AU his parents actually, you know, love him, he is allowed to keep it as a pet. :3 It is a very positive memory!

RUKA'S LAST MEMORY, both in the sense of when it was earned and chronologically. In a split second after his death, Ruka and the previously-comatose Yuki briefly mindlink onto their weird dreamscape astral plane. Ruka explains a little to Yuki: reasserting that Yuki is a Player and the Ruka had been as well, seeming pretty calm for a moment. But when Yuki questions him, Ruka snaps, grabbing Yuki by the shirt collar and pleading with him to protect Kazuki now that Ruka's died. He feels as if Kazuki gave him too much and that he wasn't able to repay that debt to him, so he's asking Yuki to do it in his place. Yuki is shocked and upset, saying that Ruka's already died for Kazuki, so what else could he possibly owe him? But Ruka's distracted by his own grief and regret, wondering if Kazuki will be angry with him since he wasn't able to help him at all, and saying that he doesn't want Kazuki to hate him. Finally, Yuki interrupts him by grabbing him by the shoulders and yelling at him that Kazuki isn't that kind of person. Ruka's surprised, but then smiles sadly: he tells Yuki that he really wishes that he could have become him, and disappears, last moments of consciousness finally passed.
